Senior
citizens are increasingly avoiding nursing homes,
retirement villages and residential care facilities in
favor of living with their adult children.
This decision is partially due to financial constraints,
because full-time residential care is so expensive, yet
it is also motivated by a desire to spend quality time
with family. Recent studies show that
increasing numbers of middle-aged adults with living parents take
primary responsibility for their care. This
isn't always easy.
The stereotype of the frazzled middle-aged
"sandwich generation" is sadly
accurate. Many juggle the responsibility of
working, raising their children and helping their aging
parents at the same time. In most cases,
adult children are challenged to properly care for their
parents and are unable to watch them for long periods of
time. Many seek help from adult day care
centers.
The Alliance of
Senior Day Programs was formed to address some of the
needs of those seeking help with the care of our senior
love ones.
